Chinese telecommunication giant Huawei joins Open Edge and HPC Initiative to build an ARM-based ecosystem aiming at shortening time-to-market for HPC and Edge deployments.
华为宣布加入开放边缘+HPC计划（Open Edge and HPC Initiative），通过建立基于ARM的生态系统来缩短HPC和边缘部署的上市时间。
Except Huawei, thought leaders from ARM, Bosch, GCC (Green Cloud Consortium), ETSI, Redhat and SUSE also joined in the Soft Launch Event.
Building the ARM-based Ecosystem
The target of the Initiative is to help shorten time-to-market for Edge Computing and HPC deployments by developing and sharing solutions to improve interoperability and end-2-end integration. By cooperation with partners of the Initiative, the Initiative is going to resolve practical deployment problems, identifying concreate industry use cases and contributing the projects results into reference deployments that will accelerate both Computing and HPC innovations and industrial digitalization.
“We are a member of this alliance and we choose ARM as our strategic partners and of course we would try to keep the business run smoothly and we do care about building a better ecosystem. All the partners can work together, for example, our infrastructure requires hardware partners to support the running of hardware systems and also other partners with HPC,” said Zhang Wenlin, head of Strategy Department of Huawei.
“We hope this Initiative could build an organized community and platform where we can exchange our progress and attracting more and more companies to join this ARM-based ecosystem and even influence the development of the whole industry.”
According to the ARM’s server and ecosystem director of China: “we provide the fundamental technology trying to enable different design from edge to HPC and treat HPC as the leading technology for the next generation’s infrastructure. Innovation happens in HPC field would influence the whole industry from the top to the end. The edge computing is becoming so important to everyone.”
“Hence, ARM tries to provide solutions with higher scalability and flexibility to help our customers to build their own devices to adapt to different edge scenarios. We want to build a cost-efficient system from the edge to the HPC in order to shape the future the industry.”
“ARM-based computing technologies when coupled with AI can bring the world a brand-new industry development opportunity in many promising areas like automotive, industry automation, HPC for scientific and industry applications, etc. Close collaboration between Europe and China will shape a new ARM+AI landscape”, according to Mr Wang Xuemin, acting as the Vice Chair of the Green Computing Consortium. Mr Wang Xuemin is the Vice President of Huawei Europe Research Institute and Head of the Huawei EU Standardization and Industry Development department.
“基于ARM的计算技术与人工智能相结合，可以为汽车，工业自动化，科技和工业应用的HPC等许多有前途的领域带来全新的行业发展机遇。欧洲和中国之间的密切合作将形成一个新的ARM + AI格局，” 绿色计算联盟副主席王学民先生表示。王学敏先生现任华为欧洲研究院副院长，华为欧盟标准化产业发展部部长。
Currently, most of the members of the Initiative are vendors and suppliers. By building a good platform based on ARM which can provide support for data scientists to take advantage from, we can attract more end users. Also, this Initiative is actually enabling those solution providers that they can fulfill their promises to the end users.
Following the soft launch, more events of the Open Edge and HPC Initiative will be held in the following few months including events in Berlin and Dallas. More partners who are engaged in the action of digitization of industries including the ICT industry are also welcomed to join the Initiative.
